Abstract
The purpose of present study was to determine the relationship between the radiographic furcation arrow image and the proximal furcation involvements in maxillary molars.
Subjects consisted of 32 patients, referred to the Department of Peridontology, due to periodontitis.
After clinical examination, maxillary molars needed periodontal flap operation, were taken with radiograph, and then, the radiographs taken interpreted over mesiobuccal or distobuccal root surface whether there was furcation arrow image or not.
Thereafter, proximal furcation involvement were evaluated during periodontal flap operation.
@ES The results were as follows:
@EN 1. Proximal furcation involvement was more prevalent in ¡¯presence of furcation arrow image¡¯ group than in ¡¯absence of furcation arrow image¡¯ group(p<0.001).
2. Difference in frequency of proximal furcation involvement in the presence or absence of furcation arrow image group according to mesial or distal surface was not significant stastically.
3. Difference in frequency of proximal furcation involvement in the presence or absence of furcation arrow image group according to first or second molar was not significant stastically.
4. Degree 3 proximal furcation involement was the most prevalent in ¡¯presence of furcation arrow image¡¯ group, while Degree 0 proximal furcation involvement was the most prevalent in ¡¯absence of furcation arrow iamge¡¯ group(p<0.001).
5. The correlationship between the horizontal and vertical component of furcation arrow image and the severity of proximal furcation involvement was significant stastically(r=0.7751, p<0.001, r=0.8616, p<0.001).
